Under 15s - Burton Junior Football League - Friel Homes Division One.

Rocester Elkes Eagles 8 Newhall Tigers 2

Eagles played Newhall FC Tigers on Sunday morning knowing that victory would give them the BJFL Friel Homes U15 Division 1 Championship over reigning Champions Moira United Woulds.

Eagles started the game showing no signs of nerves whatsoever and took the lead in 6 minutes through Ross Bentley.

Redshaw almost made it 2-0 but effort was disallowed for a high challenge, but the second goal arrived in the 9th minute anyway when Bentley headed in from a corner.

Bentley completed a quick fire hat-trick a minute later when he slid the ball home from Aden Johnson's cross.

Eagles were now cruising and number four came through leading scoring Matt Redshaw in 13 minutes.

With this Eagles switched off and allowed Newhall to pull a goal back in 29 minutes when their centre forward evaded three challenges and finished well past Jessup.

Newhall pulled a second goal back when in 36 minutes when following a free kick the centre forward was left unchallenged to stab the ball home despite repeated offside appeals by the Eagles defence.

H T 4 : 2

After a stern halt time chat, Eagles settled their nerves when Jeremy Redlar put them 5-3 up just four minutes into the half.

Ross Bentley scored his fourth and Eagles sixth in 57 minutes.

Newhall, to their credit, looked dangerous each and every time they ventured up front, hitting the crossbar from a corner and being thwarted by an excellent one handed save by Jessup.

Matt Redshaw scored the goal of the game in 72 minutes with a sweetly taken volley from the edge of the area - a fitting way to score his 40th goal in the BJFL this season.

Right on the final whistle Bentley scored his fifth of the game to make the final score 8 : 2

FT 8 : 2

Team: M.Jessup; G.Sucksmith; M.McCarron; M.Sanders; J.Redlar; H.Coley-Fisher; B.Price; A.Johnson; S.Dunion; R.Bentley; M.Redshaw. Subs( All Used) L.Mills; R.Greaves; C.Jones; J.Handforth; G. Fearn.

Congratulation to Rocester Elkes Eagles who after this victory were deservedly crowned Champions having gone the whole season unbeaten in the league - an excellent effort that followed on from last season when they only lost their final league game.

Prior to winning the league the Eagles management team had already resigned from the BJFL in search of different challenges and pastures new. The lads would like to thank all teams in the league and wish them well for the future. They would also like to thank the Management Committee of the BJFL and take the time to say the league is very well run and respected and a credit to the Management Committee.

As a consequence of their success and hard work, a number of Eagles players are now on trial with different Professional Football Clubs. Again the Management wish them well and hope that they will be offered deals with these clubs.
